A caring, compassionate place to give birth

At the Spartan Stores Family Childbirth Center at UM Health-West Hospital, our board-certified physicians, specialists, and nursing staff have the latest knowledge and skill in providing care during and after labor and delivery. We can also provide immediate access to specialized newborn care, if needed, and we have a laborist on the floor from 7 p.m. – 7 a.m. to round on patients and perform deliveries.

We are proud to be the only hospital in Grand Rapids to offer Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT), a process where physicians use their hands to examine and treat a newborn experiencing problems such as anxiety, pain, breathing or feeding difficulties.

At the UM Health-West Spartan Stores Family Childbirth Center, our all-private rooms are spacious and beautiful. Our large labor and delivery rooms were designed with state-of-the-art technology for comfort and convenience. Our postpartum recovery rooms come fully equipped with flat screen TVs, movies on demand, wireless internet, access to instant electronic education information, plenty of windows, in-room bathrooms, showers and a couch that converts to a full-size bed.
