From the Emergency Department to the laboratory, University of Michigan Health-West’s clinical work has earned recognition by independent groups across the country. Here are a few examples.

Patient-Centered Medical Home Designation – Blue Cross Blue Shield recognized the following UM Health-West physician practices in 2016:

Platinum Performance Achievement Award – Received from the NDCR ACTION Registry® – GWTG for sustained achievement in the treatment of acute myocardial infarction (heart attack) patients. 2015.

Performance, Excellence, Achievement and Knowledge (PEAK) Award – UM Health-West received this award from VHA (a network of nonprofit hospitals now part of performance-improvement company Vizient) for sustained excellent performance in the Patient Experience category. In 2014, UM Health-West was the only Michigan hospital to receive this award. 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 & 2015.

Leadership Award for Clinical Excellence – UM Health-West was recognized by VHA for sustained excellent performance in the Clinical Excellence category. 2013, 2015.

Emergency Department Wait Times – UM Health-West’s Emergency Department was recognized by Hospital Compare as one of the hospitals in the nation with shortest emergency room wait times. UM Health-West’s ED wait times were clocked in at four minutes, the only West Michigan hospital to make the list. Only 13 hospitals in the nation had shorter wait times than UM Health-West. 2015.

Silver Performance Plus Achievement Awards – Received from the Quality Registry “Get with the Guidelines” program, or GWTG, a national standard of quality for patients with stroke. 2014.

American Heart Association Mission Lifeline® Silver Plus Recognition – Recognizes care of patients with heart attacks resulting from complete blockage of at least one main coronary artery, also referred to as STEMI or segment elevation myocardial infarction. Awarded to UM Health-West for meeting 85 percent or greater composite score with no single measure below 75 percent on a variety of clinical measures. 2014.

Michigan Peer Review Organization (MPRO) Governor’s Awards – UM Health-West received two awards for outstanding achievement in reducing health care-associated infections in the acute care hospital setting and for outstanding inpatient clinical achievement in the acute care hospital setting. 2014.

Excellence in Patient Care Award – Recognized by The Studer Group for receiving results with an “Overall Rating of 9 or 10” on the HCAHPS patient survey. 2014.

Patient-Centered Medical Home Designation – National Committee for Quality Assurance, or NCQA, recognized the following UM Health-West physician practices in 2014 (three-year recognition):

Women’s Choice Award – UM Health-West Hospital received this award from Women’s Certified for being one of “America’s Best Hospitals for Patient Experience.” Criteria included quality physician communications, responsiveness of nurses and support staff, cleanliness and trust referrals from other women. 2013.

American Heart Association Mission Lifeline® – UM Health-West received Bronze Recognition for at least 90 days of 85 percent or higher composite adherence to all STEMI Receiving Center Performance Achievement indications and 75 percent or higher compliance on all STEMI Receiving Center quality measures to improve the quality care of STEMI patients. 2013.

1 for Percent Compliance of ED CPOE Orders – UM Health-West was recognized by Epic as the number one organization among all Epic customers for percent compliance of the use of computerized order entry within the emergency department; the compliance was over 98 percent. The higher the compliance, the more likely the computerized order entry has helped drive safety and quality. 2013.

Lab Accreditation – UM Health-West Hospital Main Laboratory accredited by the College of American Pathologists or CAP. 2013.

Consumer Reports – UM Health-West was recognized with a top grade for surgery from Consumer Reports. See the September 2013 issue.

Excellence in Patient Care Award – Named “Most Achieved” for work in the Discharge Information composite ratings on the HCAHPS patient survey in the value-based purchasing category from The Studer Group. 2012, 2013.
