Heart Attack Care

Heart attacks are life-and-death emergencies. Every second counts. If you see or experience any symptoms, immediately call 911 or your emergency response number.

Some Symptoms of Heart Attack

Not all of these signs occur in every heart attack or stroke, but these are some of the most common:

  • Chest discomfort: Most heart attacks involve discomfort in the chest that lasts more than a few minutes, or is recurring. It includes uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain.
  • Upper body pain: Symptoms can include pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.
  • Stomach pain: Pain may also extend down into your abdominal area and can feel like heartburn.
  • Shortness of breath: This may occur with or without chest discomfort.
  • Other possible symptoms may include breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness.

Two Steps Could Save a Life

  1. Call 911 or your emergency response number.
  2. Push hard and fast in the center of the chest. Immediate CPR can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival.
