Preventing and Managing Diabetes

Whether you’re living with diabetes or have been told you are at risk, UM Health-West is here to help.

More than 100 million Americans are living with diabetes or prediabetes, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control. If you are one of them, you don’t have to face this alone.

Our experienced diabetes education team is committed to working with your primary care physician to educate, support and teach the skills you need to manage or prevent diabetes.

In addition, we provide:

  • Insulin instruction, management, and pump training
  • Meal planning and medical nutrition therapy
  • Glucose monitor instruction
  • Gestational diabetes education

Programs & Support Services

Our Diabetes Self-Management Training classes focus on factors that influence blood sugar levels, meal planning, management techniques, medications, preventing additional health complications, exercise, dietary guidelines, and more. Education is available for all people with Type 1, Type 2, or prediabetes.

We also offer special free program on Diabetes Prevention for patients who meet certain criteria.
