Treatments & Capabilities

The surgical experts at University of Michigan Health-West provide a comprehensive array of inpatient and outpatient procedures, utilizing the latest techniques and technology.

UM Health-West is a leader in advanced, precision-based surgical medicine.

We put a priority on making procedures as minimally invasive as possible. Smaller incisions mean less pain, blood loss and scarring, as well as making faster recovery possible.

One example is the da Vinci® Surgical System, a state-of-the-art robotic technology that allows the most complex and delicate procedures through very small incisions with unmatched precision. The da Vinci® system, generously funded by a $1 million donation by local philanthropists Tom and Mickie Fox, is used at UM Health-West to perform prostatectomies, hysterectomies, urological general surgeries, and gynecological surgeries.

UM Health-West has been a pioneer in other surgical advances. For example, it was the first health system in the state to adopt a program that creates a three-dimensional simulation of a patient’s spine, to better plan and perform surgeries.
