UM Health-West is proud to offer our patients access to hyperbaric oxygen therapy. This is an advanced treatment in which a patient breathes 100-percent oxygen inside a pressurized chamber. The therapy quickly delivers high concentrations of oxygen to the bloodstream, assisting in the wound healing process and helping to fight certain types of infections.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is used for patients with conditions such as:
- Crush injuries
- Gas gangrene
- Osteomyelitis – bacterial infection of bone and bone marrow
- Skin grafts & flap
- Diabetic wounds of the lower extremities
