A registered dietitian (RD) helps you understand your condition and teach you how different foods affect it. They will work with you to create an eating plan that has the proper nutrients your body needs to manage your condition and function properly.

What is the difference between a “dietitian” and a “nutritionist”? People commonly think that dietitians and nutritionists are the same, but the two professions are different in terms of education, qualifications, and day-to-day roles. No required level of training is required to become a nutritionist and experience varies. UM Health-West has registered dietitians (RD), also called registered dietitian nutritionists (RDN), on staff. Each has a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and has passed a nationally registered exam which allows them to hold the title “registered dietitian (RD)” or “registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN)” and practice nutrition.
