Instructions
This medicine is given as an IV injection into a vein.
This medicine should be given over 60 minutes.
Read and make sure you understand the instructions for measuring dose and using syringe. If you have any questions, talk to your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
Follow package direction for diluting medicine with IV fluids or as instructed by your doctor or nurse.
Always inspect the medicine before using.
Do not use the medicine if it contains any particles or if it has changed color.
This medicine has different storage instructions depending on how it is mixed. Check labels or ask your doctor, nurse or pharmacist for details.
If your medicine is stored in the refrigerator, take it out of the refrigerator before use to warm to room temperature.
Speak with your nurse or pharmacist about how long the medicine can be stored safely at room temperature or in the refrigerator before it needs to be discarded.
Never use any medicine that has expired.
Use this medicine at the same time each day.
Space doses evenly to keep a steady amount of medicine in the body.
You or a family member can be trained to give this medicine at home.
Drink plenty of water while on this medicine.
If you miss a dose, contact your doctor for instructions.
Drug interactions can change how medicines work or increase risk for side effects. Tell your health care providers about all medicines taken. Do not take the medicine more than twice during 24 hours.
Cautions
Tell your doctor and pharmacist if you ever had an allergic reaction to a medicine.
Few patients may experience tendon problems. This is more common in patients older than 60. If you notice pain, swelling, or difficulty moving your joints, tell your doctor. This can happen even after stopping the medicine for a few months.
Do not use the medication any more than instructed.
Your ability to stay alert or to react quickly may be impaired by this medicine. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this medicine will affect you.
Please check with your doctor before drinking alcohol while on this medicine.
Speak with your health care provider before receiving any vaccinations.
Please tell your doctor if you have moderate to severe diarrhea while on this medicine. Do not treat the diarrhea with over-the-counter diarrhea medicine.
Tell the doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant, planning to be pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Ask your pharmacist how to properly throw away used needles or syringes.
Do not share this medicine with anyone who has not been prescribed this medicine.
Some patients have serious side effects from this medicine. Ask your pharmacist to show you the information from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and discuss it with you.
Side Effects
The following is a list of some common side effects from this medicine. Please speak with your doctor about what you should do if you experience these or other side effects.
- diarrhea
- dizziness
- pain, redness, swelling near injection
- nausea
- stomach upset or abdominal pain
Call your doctor or get medical help right away if you notice any of these more serious side effects:
- agitated feeling or trouble sleeping
- chest pain
- confusion
- severe, watery or bloody diarrhea
- hallucinations (unusual thoughts, seeing or hearing things that are not real)
- numbness or tingling in hands and feet
- severe or persistent headache
- mood changes
- muscle trembling or weakness
- joint or muscle pain
- seizures
- shakiness
- shortness of breath
- severe stomach or bowel pain
- blood in stool
- suicidal thoughts
- yeast infection of mouth
- vaginal itching or yeast infection
- blurring or changes of vision
A few people may have an allergic reaction to this medicine. Symptoms can include difficulty breathing, skin rash, itching, swelling, or severe dizziness. If you notice any of these symptoms, seek medical help quickly.
