Collection Requirements
No lubricants should be used. Preferably, collection should take place two weeks after the first day of the menstrual cycle. A cotton tip applicator may not be used; instead use a plastic spatula and cervical brush, or a plastic broom. Label the Thin Prep Pap Test vial (PreservCyt Solution) with the patient's full name & one other identifier prior to collection. After collection, immediately immerse the collection instrument into the vial and dislodge the cells by: ~swirling the spatula vigorously 10 times ~rotating the brush against the wall of the vial 10 times ~pushing the broom against the bottom of the vial, forcing the bristle apart, 10 times. Then swirl the broom vigorously another 10 times. Discard the collection device-Do Not Leave it in the Vial.
Shipping and Handling Instructions
Tightly seal the vial and place it in a specimen bag for transport to the laboratory. Specimen may be transported at room temperature.
