Collection Requirements
Label slide(s) with patient's name. Collect a cellular sample from the base of the ulcer or from aspiration of intact vesicle. Smear the sample thinly & evenly onto the surface of the slide. IMMEDIATELY fix them after making the smear with either spray fixative or by dropping them into 95% alcohol in a Coplin jar. Label containers with patient's name and one other patient identifier; room number, if applicable; doctor's name; date and time of collection; and source of specimen.
Shipping and Handling Instructions
May be stored at room temperature when the slides and brush are treated with fixative immediately following collection.
