Collection Requirements
Label slides with the patient's name and pass, if more than one pass was made. Immediately fix the fixed slides with spray fixative or by dropping them into 95% alcohol and allow the air-dried slides to completely dry before putting them in a container. Rinse the needle into Cytolyt collection fluid when done (DO NOT REUSE NEEDLE). Please refer to the procedure for a detailed explanation. If lymphoma is the predominant suspicion, the material remaining in the needle should be expelled into a vial containing RPMI. Label the containers with patient's name and one other patient identifier; room number, if applicable; doctor's name; date and time of collection; and source of specimen.
Shipping and Handling Instructions
Fixed and air-dried slides as well as the needle rinse in Cytolyt can remain at room temperature. RPMI must be kept refrigerated.
