As a team coordinator in the Metro Health Hospital patient registration office, Joyce is one of the first people patients interact with when they arrive.
Each day, she helps patients check-in for outpatient procedures or testing related to x-rays, mammograms and labs.
Although patients may be nervous when checking in for medical testing and procedures, Joyce’s warm and welcoming personality brings comfort to the process, creating a pleasant patient experience.
“Joyce is the most dependable and selfless person I know,” said Kelli, Metro Health Manager of Pre-Arrival Services.
Kelli and Joyce have worked together in various roles for 20 years.
“Joyce always goes above and beyond for our patients and staff,” Kelli said. “She treats everyone with such integrity, respect and compassion that patients often ask for her by name when they arrive.”
Joyce joined Metro Health after seeing an ad in the Grand Rapids Press newspaper in 1997. During her job search process, she applied to two different organizations. Lucky for us, Metro Health called back first and the rest is history.
Outside of work, Joyce relishes the time she spends with her husband and their three sons. When she’s not at her sons’ football games or wrestling matches, she can be found at home, cooking for her family or nestling up with a good book.
Joyce said she remains motivated to be a better person every day and finds a balance between her career and family simply by taking everything, “one day at a time.”
She says her favorite part of her job is the opportunity to meet new people each day and work alongside her team.
“Metro Health has given me skills that I could take anywhere,” Joyce said. “However, I choose to stay because of the employee experience.”
