Collection Requirements
If you are looking for the antigen test for PCP, then order LABPCPAG instead of this test. Acceptable specimens for silver stain are: BAL, bronchial wash, induced sputum, or bronchial brush smear. Minimum volume for BAL, bronchial wash, and induced sputum is 5ml. If a portion of the specimen is intended for microbiologic studies, then divide the specimen in half (requires at least a 10ml sample).
Shipping and Handling Instructions
Refrigerate BAL, bronchial wash, or induced sputum. Bronchial brush slides will be fixed and may be stored at room temperature.
