Permethrin Medicated Shampoo (PERMETHRIN CREAM RINSE - TOPICAL)

For lice.

Instructions

DO NOT take this medicine by mouth.

Shake the bottle well before using the medicine.

Before using the medicine, wash hair with regular shampoo and rinse thoroughly. Do NOT use cream rinse. Towel dry hair.

Apply the medicine to the affected area.

Apply the medicine to the scalp.

Wash the area first before applying medicine.

Keep eyes tightly closed and covered with a towel while medicine is being applied.

Cover entire head, including behind ears and the back of the neck, and all of the hair with medicine.

Leave it on for 10 minutes.

Rinse hair with water after treatment.

Comb hair with a fine-toothed comb to remove lice and their eggs (nits) afterward.

Check hair daily for any remaining lice or nits (eggs). Remove with comb or gloved hand.

Follow the instructions on the package to use this medicine correctly.

Keep the medicine at room temperature. Avoid heat and direct light.

This medicine should only be used on the skin.

You must follow your healthcare provider's instructions carefully to kill all the bugs and avoid becoming infected again.

Family members and anyone who has been in close contact should be checked to see if they also need to be treated.

Avoid getting the medicine in the eyes, nose, or mouth. Wash the medicine off your fingers after applying it.

Wash your hands after applying the medicine.

Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth after handling the medicine.

If medicine gets in your eyes, rinse well with cool water.

This medicine may not kill all the lice eggs the first time. You may need a second treatment in 9-10 days. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist.

It is normal for skin redness, itching and pain to be worse for a few days after treatment. Itching may continue for up to 4 weeks after treatment.

Do not use this medicine more than once unless instructed by your healthcare provider.

Tell your doctor and pharmacist about all your medicines. Include prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal medicines.

Do not take the medicine more than once during 24 hours.

Cautions

Tell your doctor and pharmacist if you ever had an allergic reaction to a medicine.

Do not use the medication any more than instructed.

Tell the doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant, planning to be pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Do not share this medicine with anyone who has not been prescribed this medicine.

Contact your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or worsens after 7 days of using this medicine.

Side Effects

The following is a list of some common side effects from this medicine. Please speak with your doctor about what you should do if you experience these or other side effects.

  • burning or stinging
  • itching
  • numbness where the medicine is applied
  • red, burning, or itchy skin
  • skin irritation where medicine is applied
  • skin redness

Call your doctor or get medical help right away if you notice any of these more serious side effects:

  • shortness of breath
  • blistering or peeling of the skin

A few people may have an allergic reaction to this medicine. Symptoms can include difficulty breathing, skin rash, itching, swelling, or severe dizziness. If you notice any of these symptoms, seek medical help quickly.
