LGBTQIA+ Services
University of Michigan Health-West is committed to providing LGBTQIA+ affirming health services where the relationship between our treatment teams and patients are built upon mutual respect, empathy, safety and understanding.
We offer a range of healthcare services, including primary care, gender-affirming care, HIV care and prevention, and behavioral health services, to help meet the unique needs of our LGBTQIA+ patients.
Primary Care Services
- Annual wellness visits/physicals
- Immunizations & vaccinations
- Stigma-free HIV & STI testing, counseling & treatment
- Prescription & management of PrEP and/or PeP
- Treatment of acute and chronic illness
- Referrals to affirming specialty care services
- Connection to local resources
Transgender Specific Services
- Trans-affirming gynecological care, including cervical cancer and pelvic exams
- Hormone therapy (HRT) treatment planning, management & monitoring
- May be managed by a UM Health-West Endocrinologist or your Primary Care Physician
- Psychiatric evaluations
- Referrals for gender-affirming surgeries
- Preoperative & postoperative care for gender-affirming surgeries
Behavioral Health Services
- Mental health evaluations
- In-office counseling
- Psychiatric evaluations
- Referral letters for medical services (e.g. gender affirmation surgery)
- Prescribe medication and medical management
- Referrals to specialty services, such as psychiatric diagnostic testing, substance use treatment, etc.
*At this time, UM Health-West behavioral health services are only offered to existing UM Health-West patients. Please connect with your Primary Care Provider for a referral.
Sexual Health & HIV Services
- Stigma-free HIV & STI testing, counseling & treatment.
- Prescription & and management of PrEP & PeP
- In most cases, this will be managed by your Primary Care Physician.
- HIV management
