Bone Health/Osteoporosis Services
Because women face a higher risk of broken bones than men do, UM Health-West offers a range of treatments.
Bone health varies throughout a women’s life. A broken bone at age 24 has different implications from a broken bone at age 74 and requires different level of care and treatment.
In addition to emergency fracture care and joint-replacement options, UM Health-West provides bone densitometry tests to scan for osteoporosis – the loss of calcium and thickness – and other bone diseases.
A bone density test can detect osteoporosis before a fracture occurs, predict your chances of a fracture in the future, determine your rate of bone loss, and monitor the effects of treatment. The test in non-invasive and painless.
