UM Health-West goes green, honors veterans with Operation Green Light tower display

University of Michigan Health-West has illuminated its hospital tower in green light for Veterans Day, showing support for those who have served our country.

The green lighting will remain from November 10-16, coinciding with Kent County’s observance of Operation Green Light. This national initiative, launched by the National Association of Counties and the National Association of County Veteran Service Officers, demonstrates solidarity with veterans and increases awareness of the resources available to them at the county, state and federal levels.

“We believe that recognizing the service of veterans is essential,” said Dr. Ronald Grifka, president of University of Michigan Health-West. “By participating in Operation Green Light, we are honoring the veterans in West Michigan and reinforcing our commitment to making a difference in their lives.”

UM Health-West has a strong relationship with the veteran community and hosts the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Wyoming outpatient clinic on its campus. This clinic provides a comprehensive range of services for veterans, including primary care, mental health services, cardiology, dental care, physical therapy, women’s health services and more.

“Our hope is that Operation Green Light serves as a beacon for veterans seeking the support they deserve,” Dr. Grifka added. “It’s a reminder that resources are available, whether from the VA or Kent County Veterans Services, and that we are here to help.”
