University of Michigan-West announced the expansion of its specialty and primary care teams with the addition of 14 new healthcare providers, furthering its commitment to delivering outstanding, compassionate care in West Michigan.
New UM Health-West specialty care providers include:
Elizabeth Colwell, M.D., thoracic surgery
Dr. Elizabeth Colwell is an experienced cardiothoracic surgeon with over 10 years of experience. She earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin and holds an undergraduate degree from Valparaiso University. She served as a thoracic surgeon at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee, specializing in minimally invasive surgical treatment of conditions affecting the lungs, esophagus, mediastinum, and chest wall.
Eric Cox, D.O., otolaryngology (ENT)
Dr. Eric Cox hold a a medical degree from Michigan State University and completed an otolaryngology residency at Corewell Health in Farmington Hills, Mich. He received a Bachelor of Science in biology from Hope College. His research contributions range from nasolaryngoscopy techniques to pediatric otolaryngology.
Aubrey Kuehnel, D.O., sleep medicine
Dr. Aubrey Kuehnel completed her sleep medicine fellowship at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire and a neurology residency at Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital in Madison Heights, Mich. She holds a medical degree from Michigan State University and a Bachelor of Science in health science from Oakland University.
Kathryn Leonard, M.D., dermatology
Dr. Kathryn Leonard earned her medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and holds a Bachelor of Science in neuroscience and Bachelor of Arts in medical anthropology from the University of Southern California. She completed her dermatology residency at the University of Michigan, where she served as chief resident. She also completed a medicine internship at NorthShore University Health System in Chicago.
Eric Schadler, M.D., dermatology
Dr. Eric Schadler earned his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Murray State University in Kentucky. He completed his dermatology residency at the University of Michigan, where he served as chief resident. He also completed a medicine internship at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
Andersen Shemme, M.D., epilepsy
Dr. Andersen Shemme holds a medical degree from St. George’s University School in Grenada and completed a neurology residency at Trinity Health Grand Rapids. He completed an epilepsy fellowship at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and is a member of the American Epilepsy Society and the American Academy of Neurology.
Allie Toth, M.D., movement disorders
Dr. Allie Toth earned a medical degree from Wayne State University and a Bachelor of Science in biomedical science from Grand Valley State University. She completed a neurology residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and served as chair of the curriculum/rotations committee and director of external affairs at Wayne State University School of Medicine. Dr. Toth also completed a fellowship in movement disorders at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.
Michael Wolfe, D.P.M., podiatry (foot and ankle care)
Dr. Michael Wolfe holds a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from Des Moines University in Iowa and completed a residency at Trinity Health Livonia, specializing in podiatric medicine and surgery. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Aquinas College and is qualified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery in foot surgery and reconstructive rearfoot/ankle surgery. Dr. Wolfe is also an active member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and the American Podiatric Medical Association.

Omaima Ahmad, M.D., pediatrics (Southwest Health Center)
Dr. Omaima Ahmad holds a medical degree from The University of Toledo and is board-certified in pediatrics. She worked as a general pediatrician at Beaumont Pediatrics Southgate and completed a pediatric residency at Akron Children’s Hospital, gaining exposure to various clinical settings and rotations. She is also an active member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and has received awards for her research contributions.
Lindsay Israels, D.O., family medicine (Hudsonville Pediatrics Health Center)
Dr. Lindsay Israels completed her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at Michigan State University, where she also earned her Bachelor of Science in physiology. She completed her family medicine residency at University of Michigan Health-West, where she served as chair of the resident wellness committee. Dr. Israels holds certifications in basic life support, advanced cardiac life support, and advanced life support in obstetrics. Additionally, she is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, Michigan Association of Osteopathic Family Physicians, and American Academy of Family Physicians.
Bailey Ledy, M.D., family medicine (Beltline Health Center)
Dr. Bailey Ledy earned her medical degree from Central Michigan University, where she also holds a Bachelor of Science in biomedical sciences. She completed her family medicine residency at Trinity Health Grand Rapids. Dr. Bailey Ledy is highly certified, with qualifications such as ACLS, PALS, BLS, and more. She is actively engaged in various leadership roles and committees related to medical education and patient care and is a certified wilderness medicine instructor.
Tyler Ledy, M.D., family medicine (Caledonia Health Center)
Dr. Tyler Ledy completed his family medicine residency at University of Michigan Health-West after earning his medical degree from Central Michigan University, where he also completed his Bachelor of Science in neuroscience. Dr. Tyler Ledy has extensive leadership experience, including roles such as chief of quality improvement and patient safety committee at UM Health-West Hospital. He received the Daisy Award during his residency.
Andrew Smith, D.O., pediatrics (Southwest Health Center)
Dr. Andrew Smith completed his pediatrics residency at SUNY Upstate – Golisano Children’s Hospital in Syracuse, NY. He holds a medical degree from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tenn., where he also earned a Master of Science in biomedical professions. He completed a Bachelor of Science in biology from Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling WV. Dr. Smith is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and American Osteopathic Association, and is PALS certified.
Alexander Witte, M.D., family medicine (Greenville Health Center)
Dr. Alexander Witte hold a medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine in Portsmouth, Dominica and completed his family medicine residency at Western Michigan University where he also served as chief resident. He is certified by the American Board of Family Physicians and American Board of Wound Management and is an active member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Witte has worked in multiple healthcare settings, including Corewell Health’s Wound and Hyperbaric Center and Select Specialty Hospital in Grand Rapids, as well as internal medicine and the wound clinic at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo.
