Metro Health Phlebotomist Rachelle draws blood with such warmth and care that you may not even notice the needle poke.
Rachelle started working at Metro Health in 2008 as a medical assistant. Always loving the phlebotomy aspect of her work, she accepted an opportunity to transfer to the lab and develop her skills. According to Rachelle, it was the best career decision she has ever made.
“My job is more than just drawing blood,” Rachelle said. “I can impact lives with a smile.”
Her favorite part of being a Phlebotomist is meeting and helping patients. Adding that, she also loves working with “some of the most amazing people in the world.”
Rachelle’s team speaks equally highly of her, sharing that she consistently goes above and beyond and is a source of positive light and joy for Metro Health patients and staff.
“I respect and care for each patient as if they were my own family member,” she said.
Rachelle recalls the day that her team helped save a patient’s life; it is her proudest moment.
“A patient had a health emergency in the lab. We all stayed calm and were able to help him ,” she said. “The patient is doing good now. He still comes in and thanks us every time he gets his blood drawn.”
After a rewarding day of serving patients, Rachelle enjoys cheering on her favorite college football team, the University of Michigan, with her husband Brad; three boys Ethan (16), Wyatt (13) and Brent (10); and cat Toby. She credits Brad for helping her balance her career and family life.
Rachelle remains motivated by knowing she has an opportunity to positively impact someone’s life every day at Metro Health.
“I have the opportunity to bless someone with a kind word and a smile while they get their blood drawn,” she said.
