More Choice and Access to Health Care for Michigan Children

Children and their families will have better access to the care they need, where they need it, as Metro Health – University of Michigan Health makes strategic additions to pediatric services.

With three new pediatricians, a number of new pediatric subspecialists and more additions on the way, Metro Health is fulfilling its commitment to offering choice and access, said Dr. Peter Hahn, President and CEO.

“This is another example of leveraging our relationship with Michigan Medicine to benefit families in our community,” Dr. Hahn said. “We identified areas of need and sought a way to connect West Michigan families to care choices, along with access to some of the most respected pediatric expertise in the world.”

The pediatric team serves patients at Metro Health Village in Wyoming and neighborhood physician offices across the region. A full range of care is provided by Metro Health’s pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists, in addition to subspecialists drawing on the renowned expertise of Michigan Medicine’s C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, nationally ranked in 10 specialty areas.

Metro Health pediatric subspecialties include:

  • Cardiology for the heart
  • Pulmonology for the lungs
  • Nephrology for kidneys
  • Rheumatology for the joints, muscles or bones
  • Urology for kidneys, ureters, bladder, urethra and reproductive organs

The additions build on Metro Health’s strong history of pediatric primary care by focusing on areas where needs have been identified and where Michigan Medicine can provide support. For example, treating kidney disease requires a multidisciplinary approach of many specialists in clinical collaboration with the pediatric nephrologist. Metro Health’s Pediatric Nephrology brings a direct connection of University of Michigan pediatric specialists.

“Parents can rest easy knowing that Metro Health’s hallmark of personalized, patient-centered care is available for their children,” Dr. Hahn said. “And, should specialized care be necessary, we have ready access to the highest levels of expertise, right here in the community where their children go to school, surrounded by the comforts of home and family.”
