Tips for your Hospital Stay – From the Patient Family Advisory Council

  1. View the full Patient & Visitor Guide at UofMHealthWest.org/guide. You’ll find helpful information for you or your visitors, including parking, food and other amenities available near the hospital.
  2. Be an active member of your care team. If you have questions or concerns, be sure to share those with other members of your care team.
  3. Check for the standard UM Health-West identification badges for those in your room. Make sure they identify and introduce themselves to you.
  4. Staff members may ask for your name and birth date before distributing medications or making medical decisions. This is to ensure the correct decisions are made regarding your care.
  5. When you are given medications or treatments, don’t be afraid to ask questions. You are an important member of the care team.
  6. Have a trusted advocate nearby if you are unable to ask or answer questions.
  7. We take your safety seriously, but if you see any concerns, please bring them to the attention of your care team.
  8. Don’t be shy about asking your care team to wash their hands.
  9. Take time to rest and care for yourself. The nurses can help to manage visitors.
  10. You may receive a survey from Press Ganey (survey vendor) after your stay. Your feedback helps us to improve services for future patients and family members.

Consider joining a Patient Family Advisory Council to share your experiences and feedback. Your participation will make UM Health-West better and positively impact future patients.
